Help with coworkers??

i started my job about 7 months ago and am just a very quiet, shy person by nature initially but warm up once i am friendly with someone. only now, am i starting to have people to semi-chat with. i think maybe 2 people introduced themselves to me when i started and as a result i just never talked to anyone because i am very insecure and awkward and figured they just didnt want to talk with me. ive also been through some personal issues that i dont bring to work but that effect my mood and interactions with people as well as self-esteem, so i probably seem like a moody, weird, solitary freak to these people. there's only about 10 other women in my office and they are all older (i am 25) or much younger interns who just are not friendly. they are not mean but i could tell they dont like me. how do i remedy this situation and let people see that i am a nice, fairly normal girl despite everything?
