Am I doing the right thing so far?

I like this woman that works at a restaurant that I eat at every so often. Ummm... One day I really wanted to talk to her but I didn't see her at the restaurant sos I asked a coworker about her. The coworker gave me her name and everything. I went back to the restaurant some weeks later and I was able to see her. I didn't know what to say and I was shy to approach her in front of customers. Since I knew her name ], all that I said was "Are you Teresa?" She said yeah, then I introduced myself and said nice to meet you and left it at that. Maybe next time I'll have a more decent conversation. Did I do the right thing though?
